Bulldog Families,

It's that time of year! We are seeing an increase in illnesses/infections such as strep throat, cold, flu, & gastrointestinal symptoms. Along with these we have had reports of a few cases of COVID, & common childhood viruses such as hand foot & mouth & pinkeye.

Please teach and encourage your child to help prevent spreading illnesses by...
*Frequent handwashing with soap & water, and backup use of hand sanitizer.
*Disinfect frequently used items(backpacks, lunchboxes, water bottles.)
*Teach children not to share personal items.
*Keep sick children home until symptoms improve.

As a reminder please read the attached HOWE ISD Health Policies. If you have concerns regarding your students health, please speak to a campus nurse.

Thank you,
Howe ISD Nurses

Graphic titled โ€œSchool Health Policiesโ€ from Howe ISD Nurses featuring a bulldog mascot wearing sunglasses. The graphic outlines district guidelines for illness, medications at school, and special health conditions. Students with a fever of 100ยฐF or higher must remain home until they have been fever-free for 24 hours without fever-reducing medication. Students sent home for vomiting or diarrhea must also remain home for 24 hours. Students diagnosed with strep throat or another infection must be fever-free for 24 hours and have received 24 hours of antibiotic treatment before returning. Additional guidance is provided for flu, rashes or draining skin conditions, participation in school activities while ill, and absences of five or more days. Medication guidelines state that all over-the-counter and prescription medications must be brought to the school in their original containers by a parent or guardian and provided to the nurse or office with proper documentation and instructions. Students may not carry medication in backpacks except approved inhalers, EpiPens, or insulin with appropriate physician documentation. Parents of students with allergies, asthma, seizures, or other special health concerns should contact the campus nurse to develop a treatment plan. The message closes by thanking families for helping keep Howe ISD students and staff healthy.
