Howe ISD / Community Library

Through a partnership between Howe ISD and the City of Howe, the Howe Community Library serves the City of Howe public patrons, the Howe Middle School students, and the Howe Intermediate School students.

The Howe Community Library provides service through books, technology, and activities in order to promote the desire to learn and grow. Our focus as a library is to partner with the teaching staff to develop educational technology and research skills while ultimately fostering in our students a lifelong passion for learning. Students who successfully use technology to acquire information are more likely to lead successful, meaningful lives in the 21st century.

Libraries allow children to ask questions about the world and find the answers. And the wonderful thing is that once a child learns to use a library, the doors to learning are always open."

Library Materials Acquisition & Review Procedures

Why This Matters
State law (SB 13) requires schools to have clear procedures for selecting and accepting library books and resources. These steps ensure that all materials support learning, reflect community standards, and are reviewed transparently.

Purpose
The Board of Trustees is committed to ensuring that all library materials acquired or donated to the District reflect community standards, support student learning, and comply with state law. This policy establishes the procedures for the procurement and acceptance of library materials in accordance with Texas Education Code §33.026, as amended by Senate Bill 13.

How Library Materials Are Added to School Library or Classroom Collections

Step 3 – Public Review
The list of proposed books will be posted and be made publicly available for 30 days before Board action.

Step 4 – Board Approval
The School Board will then vote to approve or reject the new books.

Step 5 – Library Collection
The approved books are then added to the school or class library collection.
