Candidate Information

The Board of Trustees consist of seven board members elected to serve, without compensation, for overlapping terms of three years each.  Elections are conducted annually in May.  All school board positions represent the entire school district. All Howe ISD residents who meet the eligibility requirements specified in Board Policy BBA (Legal) may run for a position in the Board of Trustee election. Following the annual election, the Board elects a president, vice-president, and secretary to serve one-year terms.

The Texas Association of School Boards (TASB) offers a free on-line training course designed by experienced school board members especially for people considering running for the school board. This course explains what to expect when serving as a school board member.
